ARC: Software Installation Overview

Below is a summary of each system configuration used with Arc. Admin privileges on the system are required for the initial installation and upgrade of the software.  If the computers were purchased from Cadwell, the software is already installed and configured.

Workstation Clients (data collection and reader systems) – Use the installation disc to install the Arc software on each Arc system. Typical workstation systems include computers configured to record Arc data and physician reader stations.
Citrix Servers – Use the installation disc to install the Arc software on Citrix servers.

*Note: If more than one Arc system is being installed on the same network, it is encouraged to include a CadLink server as part of the configuration. The CadLink server keeps all Arc systems synchronized and allows settings to be uploaded automatically across all platforms and EEG data to be reviewed from any Arc system at any time. To configure the CadLink server, see the CadLink Server Installation Instructions for details on installing the CadLink server. (PN: 369044-934)
See Appendix A and B for details on configuring for Windows 7, Windows 8 OS or Windows 10.

  1.  Browse to the installation disc loaded in your DVD drive.
  2. Double click on the Arc Setup.exe.
  3. After double clicking on the Arc Setup.exe, the installation of the Arc software will begin. The below Setup window will appear, select Install. The User Account Control window may appear, click Yes to continue.

*Note: the installer is loading prerequisites at this time, this includes NET 4.5 and may take a few minutes.
  5. Next, the Arc Setup Wizard will appear, select Next to continue the installation.
  6. The end-user license agreement will appear. Check the box to accept the terms of the license agreement and then select Next.

Congratulations, the Arc software is installed. You can repeat the same steps on any additional Arc computers. To use the application, double click on the Arc icon on the desktop, the default password for the admin user is admin.

Upgrading an Existing Arc System

If your facility has a CadLink server follow the below instructions. If this upgrade is for a standalone system, please scroll down for instructions on upgrading a system that is not connected to a CadLink server.

Activating the Arc Software

The software activates with a free 60 day trial of all features. To activate the purchased features and application, double-click on the Arc icon and log into the application. Select Activate Software.  If the remote control feature was purchased, please see Appendix C for configuration instructions.

If the computer has current access to the internet, select Activate Online. Enter the License ID which can be found on the installation CD. Enter a description of the computer and select Continue. The software will automatically unlock with the features that were purchased and assigned to the previously entered License ID. A prompt will appear stating that the software was successfully activated.

If the computer does not have an internet connection, select Activate by Phone. Enter the License ID for that system which can be found on the install disc, then select Continue. At this time, contact Cadwell customer support at (800) 245-3001 and notify the representative that you would like to activate your Arc software. Provide customer support with the user code displayed after the license ID is entered. Customer support will provide back an Activation Code, enter the code and select Continue. The software will unlock the features that are tied to that License ID and the below prompt will appear.

If all possible features were not purchased for Arc on a given system, the trial window with the 60-day countdown will still appear until the trial on those unpurchased items expires. Clicking on the question mark in the Arc software and selecting About, displays which features are licensed and which are not licensed.

Connecting Arc clients to the CadLink server

If more than one Arc system will be existing on the same network, it is strongly advised that a CadLink server is part of the configuration. Following are steps for connecting the client Arc systems to the CadLink server. In order to have the Arc client communicating with the CadLink server, the CadLink client on the Arc system must be configured to point to that server. For details on installing and configuring the CadLink server please reference the CadLink Server Installation Instructions, PN 369044-934.
*note: the Arc client must be on the network in order to connect to the CadLink server.

1. Left click on the gray checkmark in the task tray, the CadLink Client Control Panel will appear.
2. Select Tools, Advanced Settings. Check the box that says Using CadLink Server.
3. Enter the server name, the server port can be left at the default, unless this port is inactive on the network. If so, ask IT for an active port to use to communicate to the server.

Select OK, a series of pop-ups will occur in the task tray as the client connects and begins synchronization with the server, wait until the CadLink icon is a green check-mark, this is the indication that the client is connected to the server and is up to date.  If this client was a standalone system collecting data prior to the introduction of a CadLink Server, the data on that client would sync up automatically when the client is pointed to the newly introduced CadLink server.  The initial synchronization process may take several minutes.
