Cascade: Antivirus Exclusions for Classic and Surgical Studio

Cascade Classic Exclusions:

Antivirus Software and Disk Encryption Software Applications. Cadwell encourages all customers to take necessary precautions to protect computer systems from malicious programs. We also want you to protect the privacy of your patient data. Firewalls must be configured or turned off so as not to interrupt data collection. Though Cadwell has configured Cascade software with multiple antivirus and disk encryption applications, we cannot verify compatibility with all applications available in the marketplace.

  • Scheduled antivirus scans should not happen during a recording.
  •  Exclude the following file types and folders (including subfolders) from antivirus scans:
    • .smd (Cascade Classic data file)
    •  C:\Cadwell\Cascade
  •  After loading any antivirus application or disk encryption, do the following:
    • If using an acquisition system, start a new case and verify no conflicts appear.
    • Attempt to review a case and verify it opens correctly.
    • Generate a report and confirm that the length of time to generate is unchanged.
    • Verify that encryption software does not adversely delay data access and overall Cascade performance.

Local Firewalls:  For systems using Cascade Classic’s remote monitoring solution for professional oversight during surgeries, it is required to add an exception for TCP port 135 to any local firewall so as not to interfere with the remote monitoring.
